Stay Warm, Spread Warmth: How You Can Help Those in Need This Winter

Spread warmth this winter by helping those in need. As temperatures continue to drop, the biting chill of winter serves as a stark reminder of how difficult this season can be for those who are starting over. At Port of Missions Outreach Ministries, we are calling on our community to donate gently used coats, new hats, and gloves. For many of the individuals and families we serve, warmth is not just a comfort; it’s a necessity.

Spread Warmth: Why Warm Clothing Is Essential This Winter

Every year, countless people come to us after facing unimaginable hardships. Some are displaced by house fires or other emergencies and are referred to us by organizations like the Red Cross. They arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs, facing a winter season without the basic protection against the cold.

This is where your generosity can make an immediate and meaningful impact. While food and our carefully curated snack packs are essential for their well-being, warm coats, hats, and gloves are just as critical during these frigid months.

Imagine facing a Midwest winter without a coat—it’s more than uncomfortable; it’s dangerous. Hypothermia and frostbite are very real threats for those without adequate protection. By donating new or gently used coats or purchasing new hats and gloves, you are providing more than just physical warmth; you are offering hope and a tangible reminder that someone cares.

How You Can Help

We are calling on our community to step up and help us bring warmth to those who need it most. Here’s how you can contribute:

  1. Donate a gently used coat. Look through your closet—do you have a coat that’s been barely worn? Perhaps you’ve upgraded to a new one this year, leaving your old coat in great condition. That coat could be a lifeline for someone in need.

  2. Purchase a new coat while shopping. If you’re out shopping and see a winter coat on sale, consider picking one up for donation. Many retailers are offering discounts on cold-weather gear this season.

  3. Buy hats and gloves. New hats and gloves are particularly important. They are affordable items that make a big difference in someone’s comfort and safety.

  4. Spread the wordShare this blog post or tell your friends and family about our need for winter clothing donations. The more people we reach, the greater impact we can have.

Where to Donate

Port of Missions Outreach Ministries is open to receive your donations during regular business hours. Simply drop off your new or slightly used coats or new hats and gloves, and our team will ensure they reach the people who need them most.

Your Kindness Changes Lives

Every coat, hat, and pair of gloves donated helps someone facing the toughest season of their life. It’s not just about staying warm—it’s about giving people the tools they need to rebuild and start anew.

This winter, let’s work together to spread warmth. Whether it’s through donating a coat you no longer wear or purchasing an extra pair of gloves during your next shopping trip, your contributions make a difference.

Let’s make sure no one in our community faces the cold alone. Thank you for partnering with us to be the hands and feet of Jesus, meeting physical needs with love and compassion.
